(KHSM) is a non-profit incorporated charitable organization with the objective of supporting and strengthening moral and spiritual wellbeing of its members, bringing closer relationship amongst the members of Hindu community and instilling cultural values in children.
The idea of KHSM was derived from the conversation of many a likeminded people who envisaged to have a Hindu community in Australia to uphold the religious values. During the holy month of Ramayana 2013, a few families came forward to recite Ramayana.
This inspired a great thought of forming KHSM as a non-profitable incorporated organisation on 13th of September 2013. Since then KHSM is actively organising many cultural events like Monthly Bhajan with Gita class, Onam celebration, spiritual retreat, yoga retreat, vishu celebration, Vavubeli are to name but a few. KHSM also involves in charitable activities by fund raising for the needy.
The beautiful state of Kerala has a very rich cultural heritage. Kerala Hindu Society Melbourne aims to facilitate and nurture the Hindu way of life, to create a sense of pride and commitment in our service to humanity, to promote co-operation and unity among Kerala Hindus throughout Australia, and to educate our youth about Hindu customs, traditions, heritage, and generate a greater understanding and appreciation of our cultural roots and identity.
The purpose of this society is to preserve the Hindu cultural heritage through the following activities;
To promote and practice Hindu culture, philosophy and religion as a unifying force for a peaceful world –“Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu”.
To celebrate all major Hindu festivals, build closer relationships and promote cultural harmony.
To conduct multicultural events that leads to preserve and promote cultural heritage of Kerala Hindus in Melbourne.
To participate in various multi cultural celebrations of Local Councils and the state of Victoria.
To acquire Land and build a Temple and a Community centre in the historical Kerala architecturestyle in Melbourne.
To procure land in Melbourne to build a Temple and a Community Centre in a unique Kerala architectural style.
To encourage Keralite Hindus of Melbourne to form prayer groups and strengthen moral and spiritual well-being, thus facilitating an environment to practice Hindu religious activities.
To assist our children develop a sense of pride and identity with our ‘Sanatana Dharma’ while actively helping them prepare to be the finest citizens of our modern time.
To teach and provide guidance to our children in learning Malayalam language and an understanding of our rich story telling culture through the scriptures/ epics.
To engage in every possible humanitarian activitiy, including assisting socially and economically disadvantaged community members.
To support other not-for-profit and charity organizations, working for the welfare of wider community.
